PIKES PEAK AREA ROTARY ENDOWMENT (June 2008)

JANE HAMMOUD has represented our Club as our PPARE Trustee for the past nine years. She can be reached at Gehr1@comcast.net.

The History of the Pikes Peak Area Rotary Endowment

A Charitable Foundation

PPARE was established by five area Rotary clubs in 1976 with a grant of $1,050 for the purpose of providing a growing source of funding for local community service
in the name of Rotary and Rotarians in the Pikes Peakregion. The corpus was to grow through investments and club donations.

In 1985, upon the death of William and Betty Osborne, their trust of $1,000,000 was activated. This trust allocates its annual distribution to the PPARE to invest for close to eight months each year, to retain the earned income and subsequently distribute the funds as directed by the Osborne Trust Board.

In the 30 years since inception, the corpus has grown to nearly $300,000. Eighty percent of the annual earnings are used to fund local community service in the name of Rotary.

The Mission

The mission of PPARE is to make recognizable and measurable improvements
to the community.

Project Funding

The PPARE fulfills its mission by contributing to local charitable organizations determined by the IRS to be 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Funded projects are selected annually. The PPARE seeks out youth programs that focus on the prevention of a problem, rather than a cure, and satisfy a currently unfulfilled need. Applications for funding should be mailed to the Endowment by July 1st of each year.

Investments

The PPARE trustees oversee the investment of the Funds. The Board’s policy is to invest the corpus conservatively in equities and investment grade bonds for the purpose of growing the corpus.

The Board of Trustees of PPARE is composed of up to two members from each club, each serving asTrustees for five-year terms.
